Indeed. I have never seen two books agree completely on the interpretation of the court cards. I have come up with an interpretation of my own, which might be interesting to you. I will go over the general interpretation and then talk about the Knight of Cups. The qualities of the suits, for me, are: Pentacles: money, material things, sex Cups: emotions, including love, anger, sadness Rods: spirituality, creativity, planning Swords: logic, thought, action The court cards, for me, signify: Pages: sensitivity and attendance to others' needs with respect to the quality of the suit Knights: sensitivity and assertiveness about your own needs with respect to the quality of the suit Queens and Kings: female and male aspects of mastery over everything to do with the quality of the suit The court cards could refer to other people, yourself, or aspects of your personality. Every Tarot card talks about balance, and is telling you about an area of your life which is, was, or may be out of balance, or complimenting you on maintaining balance in that area. OK, so sum total for the Knight of Cups is: it is about balance in the area of asserting your emotions. People should be aware of and express their anger, love, sadness and so on, without being too aggressive, wearing their heart on their sleeve, and so on. The card is recommending that you try to maintain balance in this area, or perhaps it is talking about your relationship with someone who is particularly good or bad at maintaining balance in this area. I don't usually give different interpretations to upright or reversed cards, since usually the position of the card in the spread gives more of an indication of whether it is to be interpreted positively or negatively. --Jamie. jamie@cs.sfu.ca "I would like to say that Usenet is a very strange utility type thing."
