Crystal
Crystal is a programming languagewith the following goals:
- Have a syntax similar to Ruby (but compatibilitywith it is not a goal)
- Statically type-checked butwithout having to specify the type of variables or method arguments.
- Be able to call C code bywriting bindings to it in Crystal.
- Have compile-time evaluation and generation of code, to avoid boilerplate code.
- Compile to efficient native code.
Why?
We love Ruby's efficiency forwriting code.
We love C's efficiency for running code.
Wewant the best of bothworlds.
Wewant the compiler to understandwhatwe meanwithout having to specify types everywhere.
Wewant full OOP.
Oh, andwe don'twant towrite C code to make the code run faster.
Project Status
Within a major version, language featureswon't be removed or changed in anyway that could prevent a Crystal programwrittenwith that version from compiling andworking. The built-in standard library might be enriched, but itwill always be donewith backwards compatibility in mind.
Development of the Crystal language is possible thanks to the community's effort and the continued support of84codes and every othersponsor.
