This month's pictures are from "The Legend of Robin Hood", with Paul Darrow as the Sheriff of Nottingham. I've also put up 3 extra pictures that show PD and his beard a little better than the ones for captioning. The caption photos include two from the Bath Scene. I see we've been keeping up the occaisional bounce for Tramila? And I think your assessment of Servalan's status fits her behavior and so forth very well. She's too comfortable with wealth to be unused to it, IMHO. But that viscious streak of hers coming from a deep feeling of threat, the thought that others might find out she isn't 'qualified'-- very intriguing. And we never do see her showing much sign of book-smarts; it's manipulation of people where she shines, and that might not be int he tests. Although, really, to find good leaders, it should be. Rob: Good story, but Oxford's Boat Club is not, one hopes, as corrupt as the Federation. Still, brings up the idea-- she *was* qualified for Alpha due to leadership skills, but developed a bit of personal paranoia that those who were qualified for it by 'book-smarts' looked down on her, and might undermine her? ********* In regards to Servalan's name... my family says it sounds like the brand name of a vacuum cleaner. Of course, aesethics have surelly changed with time, but a modern-day woman would probably be better of as Hermione. :) Re: Bacterial screening--not the same as viral screening. I've come in on the middle of this but here's how they could handle the beneficial bacteria question: after the first bout of indegestion, Jenna ordered beneficial bacterial samples delivered from a medical supply company. These were scanned in the medi-lab on board the Liberator, and Zen accepted the data as an organism not to be screened out. In regards to using the teleport to cure someone, an anti-bacterial screening would not be the same as anti-viral. I would be reluctant to teleport up a plague-carrier in the *hopes* it was bacterial, rather than viral.I'd want to test them first, if at all possible. Which, given the super-diseases the crew faced, was *not* possible. But routine screening for bacteria might be built in, to avoid the 'War of the Worlds' syndrome-- picking up alien bacteria that may have malignant side effects. Or Zen and the teleport may scan and allow someone on with whatever microorganisms they have on them the first time. After that, it screens out any *new* foreign substances. Which means, you can beam up ill crewmembers safely, but not newcomers; that beneficial bacteria would only be screened out in the unlikely event that the person was deficient in them the first time; and a deformed or alien creature would not be screened out due to genetic abnormality, because whatever it is the first time it's teleported up is considered normal for *it*. People like driving Kerr up the wall because he is so generally in people's minds a straight man by nature. He takes things very seriously, which Vila doesn't. He gets very tense, and he can't help expressing his annoyance, in ways which, if you don't have to endure them up close, are rather entertaining. Finally, 5 episodes for the desert island: Aftermath, Gambit, Horizon, Headhunter, and possibly Sarcphagus, which is certainly not on my list of favorites, due to the psuedo-fantasy content, and yet for that reason, would make a good change-up from the rest. Star One is definitely a candidate. But tell me, what desert island is going to have a TV, VCR and power? --Avona, who, as you can tell, is subscribed to the digest. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Sep 1999 21:18:51 +0100 From: "Andrew Ellis" To: Subject: [B7L] Desert Island Blake's Message-ID: <00aa01befd5f$eb5836e0$91ebabc3@leanet.futures.bt.co.uk> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Two sets of desert islands here. Secondly, I would name her Livia or Lilith if I was being nice, or some appalling childhood blight of a name as I probably aren't? (Hepzibah? Pansy? Charity?). Much later. AVON: And alone, probably. Two episodes later, he's not only going, he's telling Blake (seemingly sincerely - he sounds mildly puzzled to me) "I am surprised you ever doubted it." So where and why did he change his admittedly contradictory mind? (and no prizes for "when the scriptwriters wanted him to".)
