Jane didn't even try to explain, "Me Jane, you Tarzan," to him. as an adult (as well as the language of the > great apes > which he learnt as a child). > Actually, if you ever read Farmer's Tarzan Lives, he points out all the flaws. _Of course_ apes don't have language. A child raised by apes would suffer permanent mental damage if he survived at all. It was a tribe of Neanderthals.... That aside, I did like the scene where Jane's back home in the States (she was a southern belle) and has gotten herself trapped in a forest fire (this woman had a death wish) when Tarzan drives up in his new sports car, fancy suit of clothes, and sporting a sophisticated, European accent (English or French, I'm not sure which). And what was Jane's reaction to this spurt of chattiness? She dumped him. For his cousin. Tarzan, alas, goes on to attract the interest of certain jaded noblewoman (before she heard him speak) whose resemblance to Servalan is superficial at best. She gets to know him better. She dumps him. Then he meets La, High Priestess of a colony of Atlantis, who never heard him use anything but ape tongue and who couldn't live without him. Except when she was trying to stick a knife in him. He might have prefered dumping. I hate to say this, but, when it comes to bad taste in women, Tarzan could give Avon a run for the money. Oh, all right, I enjoyed the books as a kid - which is why I couldn't take the Tarzan as symbol of masculine barbarism lying down (oh, and to put in a good word for Neil). But this needs a stronger B7 link. OK, if the crew were recast in a Tarzan novel, who would they be? Hint: Who is most likely to say, "Me, Tarrant. You, Zeeona."? Yes, it would most definitely get my top vote for that particular honor. I copied some B7 episodes to send to my sister recently, starting with "The Web" because that's the first one she hadn't seen. But I made of point of warning her that if she was going to invite people over to introduce them to the series (which she said she was), *not* to just hit "play" and start right there (at least not without warning them first), or they'd doubtless all be reduced to hysterical giggles in the first 30 seconds and *never* be able to take the show seriously. > I love The Web, but > *not* for its wonderful aliens.
