And it's not just an "I" issues, it's really more a combination with the "NT," meaning explicitly that truth sometimes hurts, but society requires a tremendous amount of careful footing around the "SF" people so that directness does not seem to be unpleasant or even rude. For this reason, the INT people do envy Avon his refusal to participate in those rules. It's so nice to hear from Julia again. TV commentaries Message-ID: <7c.5101a74.26434b67@cs.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I see all the UK programs late because I see them on video. I thoroughly enjoyed Andy Hopkinson on Collectors Lot and was so sorry that it only lasted five minutes. If I'm not mistaken, there was no mention that the interviewer was wearing a Blake costume. That was an error, I thought, because only B7 fans would realize it. (From the picture of the host on Judith's website, it's clear that the host is a lot heftier than Blake ever was in the series. The jacket doesn't lace together by a long way.) It was fascinating to see everything. The rest of the show was a terrible bore. I have all of the The Strangerers, but have only watched the first five parts. Actually, I have little desire to see the remaining ones, but I do want to see what else Paul Darrow does. The only episode I really enjoyed, of course, was the first one where Gareth got about 3-5 minutes screen time as a policeman. According to one of the UK sci-fi magazines, he got the part because Sheelagh Wells suggested he'd do it. Well, I'm glad she did. I just wish she had suggested him for a bigger part. On the Set of Randall and Hopkirk was about the making of the series. I believe Horizon or someone said that GT would be shown briefly in this. If he was in it, I sure missed him. Parts of this was interesting. I don't think I appreciate/understand British humor, and this may be part of the reason I didn't think this was wonderful nor am I thrilled with The Strangerers. Gareth's episode, "A Man of Substance," in Randall and Hopkirk was a great episode. Watching this made me wish I had seen the first five episodes of the series. Gareth played Dickie Bechard (not Dachie as originally said by sources), a pub owner, and had a reasonable amount of screen time in the show. It was a good part. I thought he looked better than he had in ages. He even looked slimmer than he did in The Strangerers though they must have been filmed not that far apart in time. He certainly looked a lot better than he did in the last two Heartbeats. His costuming at the end was really interesting. It was, also, neat to see Tom Baker, even though GT and he were not in any scenes together. (The last show the two were in together was Medics.) All in all, this show was very enjoyable, and it was great fun to see GT in an interesting role. Yes, you are happy with the idea that not everyone is like you, and as far as I can tell that's a common feature of the Es on this list. Unfortunately, I've been on the receiving end of too many unpleasant comments about my "unsociable" behaviour to believe it to be a common attitude amongst the E population in general. Quite a few people seem to think that they are doing me a favour by explaining to me that I'm some sort of freak who obviously needs help because I find the company of other people tiring after a while. As for the business about how lonely I must be, when my husband lives in the US and I don't have many friends living nearby... Some of the recent discussion in this thread, with the underlying assumptions about anyone who is emotionally reserved can't really be human, hit a nerve. Actually, I suspect that's a big part of the difference with the Es here. They're net-aware, so they understand that one does not need the constant real-time physical presence of other people to have a social life. I have a serious problem with my parents when they come to visit - they get terribly worried about me not going out with friends in the evening, while at the same time complaining about me spending time on the computer instead of sitting with them to keep them company while they watch some tv programme I have no interest in. > >Remember that in the UK introverts are in a majority, so I'm the one who can >claim the moral high ground for being an oppressed minority. This tape is longer than the others, it's about 80 minutes, but follows the same format as the other tapes. The people involved in this conversation besides Sheelagh and Joe are Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow, Jim Francis (special effects & models), and Chris Boucher (writer). The title of the tape becomes clear with the front photo because baby Orac is being held by Gareth and Paul, and it completes the group of 7. This photo, like the preceding six, is quite good and I hope will be offered later as a separate offering. The conversation rambles about various topics, and everyone, except baby Orac, gets time on the tape with Joe leading the discussion, and Sheelagh sometimes adding comments. Francis talks about his work fourth season, and Boucher talks about the series in general. Gareth and Paul add various comments throughout. Gareth talks about what he thought about Blake as a hero and the last episode. Paul talks about the upcoming two part movie which might start production in April 2001. From what he says, one assumes only Avon will be in the movie and basically it will have a new cast of younger characters. It will almost be like a Blake's 7: The Next Generation. The basic setting is twenty years after "Blake." There are two easy ways to order this tape which is 8.25 pounds for UK residents and $15 for Americans, price including postage. Judith Proctor's site offers this and tapes 3-6 for sale on her website which now can accommodate credit cards. The site is http://www.hermit.org/Blakes7. Of this series, the first two tapes, Blake's Back and Liberatored, are out of stock. The remaining tapes which are the same price are Action, Kingmaker, Elements, and Solstice. I own all seven and think most B7 fans would like to have them. Perhaps if there are enough requests, the first two tapes will be reissued. I hope so, as these are my two absolute favorites of the series. The second way to get these is directly through Sheelagh. She gives fast service and accepts both American cash and American checks. To order, use this address: Sheelagh J. Wells, 20 A New Road, Brentford, Middlesex TW8 ONX, England. The last I knew Wells was still offering photos and lithographic prints for sale and these are lovely. IF you are a new customer, ask Wells for a flyer about her photos and prints.
